Government Relations

We thought our bill would be discussed in the House of Representatives yesterday. It was the 10th bill on the special order calendar. When the legislature approves a calendar it is only approved for that particular day. After lengthy discussion on bills that were ahead of ours the House adjourned at 5:45 two bills prior to ours. The legislature is meeting today and tomorrow but the calendars for the rest of the week have already been agreed to (without our bill). The next possible date for the bill to be discussed is next Tuesday. Today is day 21 of a possible 30 so time is getting short. Representative Baker was working to make sure that the bill was near the top of Tuesday’s schedule.

We will continue to monitor the situation. The Senate is bogged down on an electronic gaming bill dealing with Macon County. This is the only bill I think they have been discussing for the last three meeting days. I’m going to try to get to see Senator Barron today to see if we can get our Senate version moving. I hope to get an updated legislative matrix out later today.
